WoW Upgrades - The item upgrading Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current item level upgrade level of the item being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for various currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will show the item's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and the current item level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades are acquired via several methods that are both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with numerous new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade to a specific item upgrader mod level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to the same level will cost less, even when they are part of an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is available across all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have several options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a crucial part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, [Redirect Only] which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade can require up to 20 crests, depending on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content that is of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons with all difficulties for higher-tier items or [empty] Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too complicated, but the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest level possible for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they have only one purpose. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the best gear you can locate and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
