For one, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units This mop and robot vacuum and mop vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our reviews. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It features advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored 100% in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's a noisy unit that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however it's more expensive and produce more noise.

If you have a larger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have number of furniture. Finally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might think from its price. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad, which uses an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app also grants access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also set up a spot clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute little eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we have test. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
