The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other premium iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they employ intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors They're also particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also quiet and can be used when you're at work or in school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a good job cleaning a range of rooms and floors with different flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competitors' compact models, this robot autonomous vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our tests. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's a noisy unit that could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit costly, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some extra cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and fills up the water tank, and cleans and dries mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house based on how dirty those areas are.

For larger houses it's recommended to choose a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home via the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It is equipped with a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to get caught on low thresholds and robot hoover is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
